Gorilla’s coffee tells the extraordinary story of Rwanda. A landlock country literally in the heart of Africa, owning a thousand hills, 23 lakes, 5 volcanoes and numerous rivers. A hilltop country rich in fertile volcanic slopes, perfect for coffee and tea cultivation. Home to the silver back mountain Gorillas, Rwanda is mostly known to outsiders for the 1994 genocide. Today the citizens tell a different story, one of humanity, goodness, generosity and kindness. A recovered unified country completely transformed and restructuring the agricultural sector to uplift the 70% of small-scale farmers eking out a living on subsistence farming. Farmers have moved from independently growing coffee to acting as cooperatives, learnt the act of organically growing and harvesting specialty beans, sun-drying and carefully hand sorting to retain the wonderful flavours after roasting.
